Although Lucena holds many festivals throughout the year, Holy Week is the most popular and traditional festival of all and a clear example of popular culture in the town.

To really understand Holy Week in Lucena, you must first know about the santería, an element that distinguishes it from the religious festivals in other towns. It consists in a particular way of carrying the floats during the processions.

The floats are borne by santeros, the faithful who bear the floats on their shoulders at a pace marked by precise drumbeats.
