Highly popular throughout the region, Holy Week in Pozoblanco includes several peculiarities that set it apart from other Easter celebrations in the province.

First there are the “Passion songs” sung by the people of Pozoblanco during Lent to announce that Holy Week is drawing near. Women also play an unusually relevant role, as evidenced by the fact that they have their own brotherhood – or rather, sisterhood – made up of women only, as well as a group of female penitents, the same as most of the oldest brotherhoods.

Finally, Pozoblanco has a curious tradition, recently recovered, that takes place on the Day of Resurrection. It consists of burning figures made of straw, wool and old cloth to celebrate the Resurrection of Christ and the victory of good over evil.
