Castro preserves the remains of the ancient walled enclosure erected for defensive purposes by the Almohads in the 12th century, when the settlement was named of Qasira or Casruh.
In 1240 the municipality was conquered by Ferdinand III via agreement and five years later was donated to the Council of Cordoba.
