Guadajoz – Campiña Este

The road from Córdoba to Granada still conserves the spirit of Moorish Spain.

Amidst olive trees and vines we encounter castles, ramparts and, above all, customs that recall a period that spanned almost a thousand years.

The towns and villages within the Mancomunidad del Guadajoz Campiña-Este, lying to the south of the Valle del Guadiato [Guadiato Valley] and the Sierras Subbéticas, in the very centre of the Route of the Caliphate, present a varied artistic and cultural heritage that is the fruit of centuries of merging and coexistence involving the different cultures that settled in the area.

The numerous characteristics that define the region and attract visitors include an incredibly rich archaeological, architectural and natural heritage, thousand-year-old traditions, festivals and singular romerias [religious processions] and, unquestionably, a magnificent gastronomy centred around olive oil.

Baena, Castro del Río, Espejo, Nueva Carteya and Valenzuela present a large number of routes that are of interest on artistic and cultural levels, cutting through a landscape of time-worn watchtowers and castles, bathed in the waters of the River Guadjoz, which contains all of the ingredients to leave visitors with an unforgettable memory of this area of the Campiña.
