The church was the first of seven founded by Ferdinand III in one of the most typical quarters of the city.
It is currently being restored and has been closed to worship since the 19th century.
In 1982 it was declared a National Monument.
The church’s artistic heritage is totally dispersed at present.
It has served as a model that was to be followed in Cordoba’s parish churches, where the Castilian influence is apparent in late-Romanesque characteristics assimilated by Mudejars and deeply rooted within Gothic forms of Burgalés origin.
The facades of the Gospel and Epistle bear particular mention, with the latter being the oldest in the city in a Mudejar style.
