The Iglesia de San Pablo is the only church founded by the Dominicans within the kingdom of Cordoba.
It was erected in the outskirts of the city, close to the Puerta de la Pescadería and building was slow and progressive.
The church is one of the confiscated buildings. It was in a sorry state of conservation when, at the end of 19th century, the church was ceded to the Claretian missionaries.
The church is rectangular in shape and divided into three naves without cross aisle and with a triple apse. The central nave is a beautiful lacunar decorated with Mudejar tracery dating back to 1536. The main façade preserves the original buttresses, the rose window and crowning at the gable end similar to other churches of that period.
It has several chapels displaying the Mudejar art of the city, including the chapels of the Cristo de Animas and San José.
It also contains the sculpture of the Virgen de la Angustias [Our Lady of Sorrows], the last work by the cordovan sculptor Juan de Mesa, and the 18th century Baroque façade of the atrium.
