The calle Eduardo Sotomayor runs along the lower part of the square, leading to the iglesia del antiguo Hospital de San Juan de Dios, which dates from the 16th century and was renovated at the beginning of the 18th century.
It displays wall paintings of the episodes of the life of the saint; which in the upper part of the central vault are attributed to Antonio Contreras, disciple of Céspedes.
