Iglesia Parroquial del Salvador

The most interesting feature of Pedroche takes the form of the parish church of El Salvador, or Iglesia de la Transfiguración, which stands at the highest point of the town.

It is a Gothic-Mudejar temple dating from the 16th century and reformed in the 18th century.

The church consists of three naves with pointed arches; the central nave is covered with Mudejar coffering.

The high chapel  boasts a cross vault and has a beautiful Baroque altarpiece from the latter half of the 18th century.

Recent restoration work uncovered some interesting wall paintings above the transverse arch, which depict the Anunciation.

These paintings are as old as the church itself.

The lacunar of the baptismal chapel is interesting and unusual, decorated with tracery and suspended pine cones.

On the exterior, the temple possesses three doorways; the most important is called the Puerta de los Arcos, due to its portico of pointed arches with a ribbed vault.

The robust Renaissance tower was built during the 16th century and consists of four sections: Hernán Ruiz II and Juan de Ochoa intervened in its construction.
