Lope de Vega immortalised Fuenteovejuna in his play, idealising the revolt of the village in the Middle Ages under the prism of the Spanish Golden Age.After 516 with the uprising of the residents against the Commander of the Order of Calatrava, the play is represented in the village. The plaza de Fuente Obejuna is converted into the stage where the action is relived of those country workers humiliated by the feudal system, by a man who abused their women and sowed terror with whip and sword. The representation of the play has been a success since it began in 1992, becoming part of our cultural heritage.Every two years the residents of Fuente Obejuna join together to shout against the oppression “all for one” reliving the collective uprising that immortalised them.
